Southlands - a unique community that offers a country lifestyle within the city, where it is said there are more horses than people. The area is predominantly acreages with multi-million-dollar mansions dominating the land. The Southlands Riding Club, formed in 1943, is a highlight of the area; its clubhouse was a former net drying hut for fishers on the Fraser, and was disassembled and carried to its present site by members on horseback.

Archaeological evidence indicates that native Indians inhabited the Southlands area as early as 400 B.C. In 1892, Southlands became part of the newly incorporated District of South Vancouver and then subsequently became part of Vancouver in 1929 when the Municipality of Point Grey amalgamated with the City of Vancouver.

The first significant land development in Southlands occurred in the mid-1920s and some of the homes built during this period still stand today.
